One of the earliest sets of paintings by Xin Wen, 'Ambrosia' represents new life. Referring to the food of the gods, ambrosia is life-giving. What is life without communion, without sustenance? But the gods don't feed on bread like ours. Ambrosia is a meal of mystagogy.
Two panels, oil on linen. In the first the warmth takes the whole surface and keeps only a trace of green at its edges; you see an apparition of a god, however obscurely. The second sets the same pink haze onto a clear sky. They're hung together because they represent one orientation: we are looking up at the heavens.
